baby four: week 13

Hello there!  :)

That’s actually last week’s photo - 13 weeks, to be more or less approximately exact.  Haha.  Yesterday, I went for my very first prenatal appointment, with a midwife, which was both nice and… boring.

Yeah.  Apparently there is nothing new to learn when you’re on your fourth baby, except for who your new little person turns out to be, and what he or she will be like; and since we won’t even see our little bigger-than-a-lemon sized baby for at least six more weeks, it’s mostly just routine.

The hours Troy has been working are really taking it out of him, to the point where he’s not really able to do much until he’s actually at work.  Good for while he’s at work, a little crappy for while he’s at home.  I’m not bitter, and neither is he, because we both know how valuable and important this job is for both us and our almost-four children, but it’s difficult now and again.  So my golden-haired knight in shining armor fell asleep in the car while waiting for the ickier parts of my appointment to pass (heck, *I* didn’t even want to be there for the pap smear, ew), and he didn’t get to hear the heartbeat yet.

But!  I did!  And the heartbeat is fast, and strong - loud even - at 160 beats a minute.  My uterus is higher up than usual, but my midwife is fairly certain that’s because this is my fourth pregnancy (fifth really, but our other little one was lost before my uterus had much chance to expand).

Some of you know that I’ve been without kids for almost a week now, since my oldest two are vacationing with grandparents, and Ian has been with his dad these past six days.  I thought I would get a little more work done, more housework at least, and would feel generally more rested and have extra time to… do something, anything I could think of.  HAHA!

What actually has happened is that I have been sleeping more, but feeling not very rested overall.  I’ve gotten more work done, but NOT more housework.  I’ve run a lot of extra errands, but that’s actually made me a bit more cranky and even more sleepy.  I’ve also gotten very bad at figuring out what to eat for dinner, which means I’ve consumed a lot of cereal, peanut butter sandwiches, and plenty of other assorted not-that-great snacks.

I wish there was an easier way to plan meals other than having to use my own brain, and I wish there was an easier way to prepare healthy meals other than me having to do it.  I can hardly remember to fix myself dinner before I’m starving, let alone plan it out ahead of time.  All my usual capacity for preplanning has gone completely down the pregnancy drain, and I’m getting frustrated over it.  When I remember to be, that is.

I second the motion for someone to devise a way to plan a meal without using one’s brain and a healthy way to eat without having to cook it! Seriously, I can’t even feed myself these days, nevertheless my fiance.

Glad to hear the little one’s heartbeat is going so strong! :)

@Kate, maybe it’s a symptom of being busy, or having a lot on one’s mind, but - ARG! So frustrating!

I’m feeling bad for my kids because I forget to feed them, along with myself, because they don’t say anything until they’re whining it and crying it.
Yeah, Bad Mom of the Century here :(

@Sarah, I don’t ever have a chance to forget to feed mine because apparently they are ALWAYS HUNGRY. I forget to eat right now mostly because they’re not here. ;)

I’ve been there. Before I know it I’m starving and waiting the 30 seconds it takes to make a bowl of cereal is too much.
I had a complete food aversion for a few weeks. Everything grossed me out…Everything.
    But now…mmmmmm….cereal.
