Oh my aching head.

My head hurts.
Last night, I meant to get some more work done, and get to a few other things on my list of to-dos - but Troy and I fell dead asleep at 9:30pm (which is at least five hours before we normally go to bed), and only woke up at one in the morning to turn off the lights and crawl under the covers. Then Joey tapped on our door at 7:36am, wondering why we weren’t up yet, since it was a school morning.
Ten whole hours of sleep!
!!!!!
This NEVER happens. I think my body doesn’t know what to do with so much sleep, because I’ve felt simultaneously rested and lethargic since this morning, and around the middle of the morning I developed this achy head. I would love to go back to bed but I think that is probably the WRONG idea.
And now I can’t think of what I was going to write about today. I’m sure it was both amazing and witty, but it went somewhere in my brain that I don’t have access to right now. Or possibly it just left altogether. Meh.
What do you guys do when you have a headache smack in the middle of your productive time of day? Besides moan and complain and/or sulk, I mean.

What? Really? You only get 5ish hours of sleep a night? No way Jose, that would so not work for me. On a typical night I got to bed at 10 and wake up at 7:15.

Excedrin Migraine/Excedrin Tension
Those are my life-savers.
Oh, and at night, Tylenol PM. :)
Hope your head feels better soon. I hate headaches. :(

@Duchess, sometimes I get more than that, if I go back to sleep for an hour or so after the kids are up and on the bus. However, this rarely happens when it’s an Ian week, because you really can’t get a two-year-old to go back to sleep after their siblings were up bumping around getting ready for school. ;)
@Sarah - the thing that actually works best for me is the thing that also tends to give me heart pains. When they’re really bad I use pseudoephedrine (what they made Sudafed out of before it became a no-no to sell OTC). But I don’t like to rely on those any more because they do make me feel kind of… floaty and like my heart is beating WAY too fast.

Claritin does that to me (still sold OTC, just have to get it from behind the pharmacists :)), so I take it rarely.

Red red wine makes me feel so fine.
All kidding aside, oil of peppermint works wonders for me. Sometimes I just suck on a Starlight mint.

@Sarah, I’ve always wondered if Claritin might work for my headaches, but I really don’t want to try it unless I am totally and completely desperate.
@cajunvegan, LOL! Wine makes it WORSE, which I know because I’ve tried it. I seem to become dehydrated almost immediately when I get a bad headache, so anything that would cause me to become more so - coffee, wine, beer, etc. - makes it quite horribly worse right away. I wonder if peppermint would work for me too… I’ll have to try it.

I only take it for allergies and congestion, so I wouldn’t know about headaches :) The decongestant really works though :) and really does last for 12 hours (the whole floaty feeling lasted that long for me, as well, but gradually lessened which was good).

@Sarah - well geez, it might work for me then, because my headaches include a hefty portion of sinus congestion about 98% of the time.

…also, if I remember correctly, it’s usually a few bucks cheaper than a box of off-brand pseudoephedrine.

It’s definitely worth the cost ($35, I think it was, for 24), but like I said, they LAST. That’s what the doctor always gave me for my sinus infections, which included a healthy dose of migraines.

Try mucinex (or the store brand of guaifenesin) for the sinus congestion - it’s worked wonders for me. When I get a crushing headache, I brew a pot of coffee and drink it like tequila on spring break (or whatever handy analogy you care to use), that tends to at least take the edge off. I have a 2.5 year old, I hear ya on the “no extra sleep” thing.

one of the nastier cold or flu bugs going around this year has exhaustion and headaches as part of the very common symptoms. So make sure to get plenty of vitamin C and such.
I know I seem to have been hit by it recently. Lots of congestion, minor sore throat, couple of days of feeling tired/spacey. Mostly it just seems to hang on.

I take Niacin (1) 500mg capsule a day, which helps cut down on the number of migraines I get. I had been to a neurologist for over 10 yrs for migraines & he had me on several different kinds of meds for it. At one time I was taking 5 different meds. I am no longer taking any thing but Niacin & when I get a migraine Aleve gel caps
2. I would get migraines 2-3 times a week & some would last 2 days without letting up. Now when I get one like that I go to my dr. & get a shot of Imetrex & toridial which helps. If it is real bad were I am sick from it he gives me a shot of demeral.
