No more ads!

Blogged on Sunday, March 2nd, 2008 by Rachael. Filed in Administrating, Blog365, Randomness.

I decided to get rid of the Google ads I’d had in the sidebar and below the content here. I was trying them out for one to two months, to see if they’d really do much of anything. Anyone who has a blog that has even one or two readers can get overly excited about the income possibilities (or maybe not, lol) - but in all reality, it’s mostly the most popular bloggers who can capitalize on their readership in such a way that it brings in any kind of money at all.

So far since the end of December, I brought in a grand total of three dollars and change. Since Google doesn’t pay out until your check amount is at least a hundred dollars, it would be ridiculous of me to keep hanging on and wishing for all my visitors to just CLICK ALREADY, dammit, so that I can get a very small amount of money!!

Besides, what I love most about my blog is not its potential moneymaking (not that there really is any, as I think I’ve proven, heh), but that fact that I write here and I meet you here and we talk. And I visit your blog and we talk there too, and sometimes we talk other places too. The community and friendship is what I have begun to fall in love with, and that’s what my focus will be from here on out.

Unless I get a corporate sponsorship! Then I will shove it down all your throats hahahaha!! …just kidding. I wouldn’t do that to you, I’d do it to someone else! Promise.

So, here endeth the experiment. Although I will be keeping the cute little Entrecard widget up, because I love giving other bloggers free space on my blog to say hi and maybe end up friends with some of you. It’s all about community, baby.

I’ve NEVER gotten any income from ANY of the ads on my blog.

But thanks for keeping Entrecard. :-)

That’s why I don’t get into running ads at all. I tried adsense and felt obligated to give it some space cause I use Blogger. But, no ads have ever given me a pay cheque and I’m not holding my breath on that one either. A blog only has so much space before it looks cluttered and spammy. I’m keeping my space for myself.

I gave up ads as well. Honestly, I can afford the $180 a year for my hosting (and I’m paid until Oct. 09 anyway)

I haven’t gotten any money from mine either. Probably because of my blog name, the ads are always related to broken bones, and I don’t think that’s what my readers are looking for.

Never had ads, never will on Why Not - Right. Could never get over the sensation I was selling out on the original reason I started blogging - just to blog - no more, no less.

$180 a year for hosting? Man that sounds expensive… do they host in gold? I’m pretty sure mine only costs $19.99 a year. I’m so confused.

Anyway, I agree with Google Adsense, but the rubicon project is a whole other story! I’ve already doubled my $3.76 since I joined less than two weeks ago! :D

I have blogher ads and have made a bit of money from those… nothing major. just dinner at a family style restaurant.

Tried Amazon Affiliates, but made nothing from that.

I really hate the websites filled with AdSense and I just don’t understand why people are still using it. Everyone has a website now a days and all are trying to make money, so why would a person who knows about adsense will click on these junk links..

Some times I click on these ads if I really found the information helpful to pay something but normally I close these pages within 2-3 seconds.

I have an adsense account but never used it so far.
