Hair 2.0: The Purplening

Blogged on Saturday, December 22nd, 2007 by Rachael. Filed in Hair, Randomness.

I wanted to say ‘the purpling’ but I thought that the less-easy-to-pronounce madeup word was BETTER.

I am in the process of making my hair some shade of either raspberry or purple, depending on how it turns out. Heh.

My boyfriend (Troy) is helping me, which is awesome, because while I enjoy coloring my own hair from time to time, it’s far more fun to have a companion. The first thing we did was use a lightener on my hair, a powdered one that the Sally’s salesgirl recommended called Wellite, which we mixed in a glass bowl with a little bit of cream developer in 20 volume (because I’m a chicken and didn’t want BLOND hair). Troy put on rubber gloves (ooh, sexy, ha) and applied it to my hair and then combed it through to make it as even as possible; and I put some on his hair as well, because we’d dyed it red during the summer and, because he’s naturally blond, it still hasn’t completely faded out.

Then we waited an hour, because the box says ‘50 minutes maximum’, and all the sites I’d Googled said not to pay attention to the box. HA. They should never have told me that.

So, anyway, this is what happened to my hair:

pink and orange hair!!

DUDE!!! It’s all pinky-orange!!! Whoah. This is so exciting. Troy insisted I take a picture before we went on to the next step, and also insisted that he LIKES it this way, even though I think it looks like clown hair. Cool clown hair, maybe, but CLOWN HAIR.

Right now, I’ve got Color Jamz Raspberry Kamikaze soaking into my unsuspecting hair follicles. Actually, they are not so unsuspecting any more, having just been forcibly turned pink/orange. Hilariously enough, the roots of my hair stayed almost entirely their normal shade of very dark brown.

(More photos to follow, once the deed is all done.)
