I’m sorry you have had such a bad experience with social workers. I am a counselor who does in home case work/counseling. These people do start out in this field because they want to help. It is a very tough field to work in and the burn out rate is super high. They get used and abused by clients. (not saying you have) I know that I take things personally and it kills me. I can understand why the social workers have to stop letting it be so personal, it’s way too hard emotionally. Anyways, just wanted to let you in on the other side. But still very sorry you have had such bad experiences. It’s not an excuse to do a bad job.

It won’t last long. Most social workers start off nice but burn out along the way. Often the people they deal with people with revolving door needs because they lack the skills and sense to make it in the real world and out of the “system.” They deal all day with idiots after a while it’s easier to assume everyone’s an idiot and not be let down.
And your nice social worker for now will become cynical in time, or you’ll get reassigned. It always happens. You can’t take any of it personally anyway, they don’t.

they don’t have to be nice. they work for the state. they get a pay check whether they work or not…
