Delete your Myspace Account!

Blogged on Monday, January 28th, 2008 by Rachael. Filed in Anti-Monday, Blog365, Randomness.

Got your attention, eh?

My awesome friend (who is still sick, although thankfully I am getting better) pointed this post out to me a few days ago: Bloggasm (I heart the name of his site so much).

Simon says:

That’s it, I’ve had it. After months of only visiting my myspace profile in order to delete spam friend requests from half-nude women, I’ve reached the end of the line.

The other day I received an email from Myspace announcing something semi-relevant: “One of your friends is having a birthday this week.”

Intrigued for once, I actually opened the email to find out who was having a birthday…

Visit Myspace to find out who? No, I’m not going to fucking visit Myspace to find out who, there’s absolutely no reason why I should have to visit the website, wait for it to load because of the excessive banner ads, and then log in just so I can find out who is having a birthday. If you’re going to take the time and energy to spam my inbox with the message, then you can tell me in the email itself whose birthday it is.

I do, in fact, have a Myspace account myself. I rather hate it, because it’s a) ugly, b) useless, and c) I am tired of being ‘friended’ by wannabe porn stars and indie bands.

So on January 30th, I will also be deleting my account! SUCK IT, Myspace. (You can suck it too, Monday, but that’s just on principle.)

Who’s with me?!

Very well done, my dear - I say myspace is just a cesspool of spam and half naked women.

    Screw mondays and myspace!!

But not at the same time because that’s kinda weird, LOL.

I’ve always refused to have a myspace account just for the principle of the thing. It’s good to know I was right to stay away!

@Alison, see, you’re smarter than me. Sometimes I jump on things too quickly and end up with cesspools of spam!! (HAHA, Troy!)

I cannot do it. MySpace has allowed me to keep in touch with some of my younger relatives where e-mail never did keep us connected before. I have never had any problems with spam or nekkid women. I do keep my profile locked to private … maybe that has something to do with it.

So I guess I won’t be sending you a friend request after all. :-(

@cajun, AWWWW geez, now I kind of feel bad.

I’m glad you’ve gotten the use out of it that makes it worthwhile for you - that’s what I’ve ended up liking Facebook for. All kinds of friends from a long time ago seem to have an account and it’s been really wonderful finding them all.

I’m still a relatively new reader, but a friend of yours IS having a birthday this week. Who? ME!!! It’s not an exciting birthday (35) but, it wasn’t me who they were talking about on myspace - so feel free to delete your account. Mine was deleted long ago (I think.)

I would like to delete mine, but I forgot my Password and can’t really get around to fix it ;)
    So, it’s running.
Free advertisement for my Zazzle Site though.

I’m not too fond anymore of none of those social blah sites.
I rather blog and take the adsense pennies myself ;)

@HecticMom - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 35 is a good age, I’m sure - I’m only five years away from that after I turn 30 this year. (Ack!)

@Nicole, LOL. I wouldn’t even want to have them send my password if I’d lost it, haha.

I don’t think I have a Myspace page. I could well have one somewhere, but I don’t recall offhand where. The only time I visit Myspace is to see what one of my favourite artists is up to.

It’s a good thing that you can still SEE the site without having to log in. Unless, of course, the person has their profile locked like cajunvegan, and honestly that’s the only way I’d ever have another Myspace account, which will be NEVER.
