71: Second BloP, in which no more noveling has been done.

Yes, well. You’ll feel sorry for me in a minute.

So last night I was leaving the Nano Kick-off Write-in (HOORAY WE CAN HAS BIG WORD COUNTS!!), actually all five of us were leaving the Kick-off Write-in (me, my boyfriend, and all three kids, because the oldest two are doing the Young Writers Program, and the two-year-old really has no choice since he can’t be trusted at home with his own key yet. Also he won’t go to bed at an appropriate time without prompting), and it was quite chilly outside. Right about 40 degrees, as the handy large sign near the road told us.

I got the kids in and buckled and put the key in the ignition and turned it - rrrrrrrrrAAUUUGH. rrrrrrrAUUUUGH. I did this several more times, then my boyfriend had a try, and no luck. The stupid (sorry, car) engine just wouldn’t start up and stay on, for crying out loud.

The upshot of the very long, drawn-out, and boring (and cold) story is that we had to have a ride home, and my darned car had to spend the night and the better part of today in the grocery store parking lot. Grrrr.

It starts up fine (or mostly fine) when it’s warm out. When it’s cold, FORGET IT. And I completely forgot that it’s not just cold in the morning when it’s time to drive the kids to the bus stop, but it’s also cold at night when it’s near bedtime. Sigh.

From what I’ve been told by various men who know me and looked at the car, the best bet is to first replace the spark plugs. I went out and purchased six plugs (darn you stupid fancy six-cylinder engine!!), and hopefully they will be put in tomorrow. Thank God I can get away with having to stay home for at least a few days, although I had to call in to my library job this morning, and felt like a complete ass. I deeply dislike calling in to work, sick or otherwise, because I feel a responsibility toward my job.

Now it’s ten-thirty at night and I’ve got no writing done, except this post. It’s alright, though, because I still have lots of November left. …For my car to do more mean things to me. :p

Here, have a photo of my kids being fierce and piratey. It makes me feel better. :)

ARRRR.

And here is one of Ian, dressed in THE SAME CLOTHES but for some reason he looks like a Jedi instead of a pirate. Go figure. He’s so stubborn about everything.

Pirate Jedi

Dang you make good looking kids…

Check the battery too - or battery connections - for your car - you may just need a good cleaning of the posts…

Make sure those sparkies are gapped right!
