45: Mowing the lawn!
Blogged on Monday, April 30th, 2007 by Rachael. Filed in Randomness.
Yesterday, I mowed my lawn. BOOYAH!
Perhaps, if you’re not a female, you don’t understand what’s so exciting about mowing your own lawn; or maybe lawnmowing is a universally recognized feat of strength, I don’t know. At any rate, I mowed my own lawn, and it felt GOOOD. Grass in my hair, grass clippings stuck to my arms, grassy bits nestled in the rolled-up cuffs of my jeans, and grass squooshed under my toes (I like to wear my Teva sandals to mow, so my toes can breathe. Shut up! Stop laughing at me!), which made them a horrifyingly fascinating shade of pea-green. It was so sexy, I am telling you.
And YES, I took a shower after!
Also, as we speak, I am writing this post from my linux machine!! Okay, from one of my linux machines. I have a very old laptop running Damn Small Linux, this one running Ubuntu 7.04, and an older desktop that is not connected to the internets running the alternate version of 7.04 (’cause it’s all old and stuff), for the kids to use. Did you know that there is a typing tutorial for linux? And educational games? And a huge number of awesomeness that I wasn’t even AWARE of until I took the plunge and decided to finally embrace the geekitude?
I heart linux. SO MUCH!
On to the next random bit: next Penguicon, I will have an actual job working for the con - hooray for me! Or not. I was approached about helping, which means that now I shall have to actually, you know… help. :) Those of you who read my recap and wished you had been there, I say, come next year! Put it on your calendar, people. You have to be there.
So ends the random! How are all of you? And also, if you asked for interview questions and haven’t done them yet, get on it! So I can post the link and we can all enjoy it! Okay, back to your regularly scheduled other stuff you were doing.

A big, hearty-yet-girly high five to you for mowing your own damn lawn! And why shower? Demeter makes a whole PERFUME to get people to smell like freshly, cut, grass - you shoulda’ bottled yo’self up before you washed it all off!
Anywho - congrats on the Penguicon work opp. Sounds like fun!

Lawnmowing perfume?! Wow. I could have been a millionaire, just now. Or I could bottle me in another week, which is when it’ll need mowed next!
:) *high fives back*

Welome to the Penguicon team o’ geekdom!
As for the lawn mowing in sandals thing… I one of my friends spent a month on crutches because a sliver of wood fired out of underneath the lawn mower and shot directly into his large toe. It spanned from a few inches sticking out of the toe to the middle of the bridge of his foot.
He wasn’t happy.
I slipped while mowing two years ago and the toe of my leather workboot took a thrashing when is went under the mower briefly. Had I been wearing sandals, I’d have no right toes.
Never mow in sandals. This after school special moment was brought to you by Ovaltine and Trojan Condoms.

LOL, thanks for the welcome.
And? I live for the danger, man!! Haha. Seriously - I hope that doesn’t happen to me, because OW.

I had a push mower catch on fire on me. Right under a tree. That was a lot of fun.
I hate mowing, but that stems from me only getting 10 bucks to mow our yard when I was a kid.

You got PAID to mow when you were a kid?! Dude. I was so pwned.
…and actually, I really hated mowing when I was growing up. Only now that I have my own lawn (and thusly [apparently], my own pride) do I actually enjoy it.

I didn’t get an allowance, so that $10 was my allowance. The thing that got me was that my Grandparents gave me $20 to mow theirs, and it’s a quarter of what my folks house is

Life is so not fair when you’re a kid. Or any other time, actually, hahaha.
So tell us more about this lawnmower catching on fire?!
