27: Putting the smackdown on my youth group.
Blogged on Wednesday, March 14th, 2007 by Rachael. Filed in Emo.
This is Wednesday, which means it’s youth group night. ‘Teen Night’, to be exact.
And tonight, I shall commence laying the smackdown upon the teens.
Here are THE RULES, which I shall print off and give to each of them:
- RESPECT THE ADULTS. What does this mean? It means BE QUIET WHEN THEY ARE TALKING, and no leaving the room during class, unless you’ve been told to go.
- RESPECT EACH OTHER. What does this mean? It means no hitting, punching, kicking, or otherwise disturbing each other. Unless we’re playing a game and those are the directions, respect each other’s privacy, personal space, and feelings.
- RESPECT THE BUILDING. What does this mean? It means no writing on the walls, or food fighting, or taking supplies without permission, or using anything in the church you haven’t been told you’re allowed to use.
Why did you make rules?! I HATE rules! I made these rules because if the rules are followed, we will all have a good time. I made these rules because I tried giving you only guidelines, and instead of respecting me, each other, and the building, you did not. I made these rules so that we can spend our time together learning and having fun, instead of me yelling at you and none of you listening.
If you can’t follow my rules, you can’t be in my youth group.
Eh? What do you think? I’m giggling inside because I’m hoping this shakes them up - and at the very least, I’ve drawn a line in the sand and they can choose what side to be on. It’s too difficult to try and “teach” people who could care less if you’re talking or hanging from the ceiling by your little toe.
Okay, actually, they would probably enjoy me hanging from the ceiling by my little toe - but I digress! These teenagers are like a pack of unruly six-year-olds in almost-adult bodies, and they have the uncoordination (is that a word?) and the attitude of toddlers who just learned what ‘NO!’ means.
So then, after I lay it on the line, I’m going to talk about RELATIONSHIPS!! …if anyone is still in the room, that is.
