22: A cup of hot tea does wonders for my cold fingers.

So, here we are, almost at the end of February already! I can’t believe this month has flown by like it has. It’s almost SPRING, people. Spring! Warm weather and mud and a messy front lawn! Yay! (Or not.)
For her birthday, I got my mom an mp3 player. It’s not a super expensive one - just enough space to hold a few hundred of her favorite songs, which happen to be either a) Evanescence, b) Nickelback, or c) in some way related to an anime. She’s such a hilarious conundrum. It’s obvious that she’s enjoying it, though, because she uses it all the time. In fact, she wears it into the office in the morning and nobody realizes she’s doing it until she unplugs one ear and says, “What? I didn’t hear any of that!” while grinning. Ha.
On the other end of the spectrum, my step-dad is desperately trying to understand how to use his web browser. Not knowing what an address bar was (actually the issue is REMEMBERING what I told him it was), he kept typing websites he wanted to visit into the search bar on IE. Now, obviously I hate IE, and I always tell people to switch to Firefox AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, but he’s so woefully tech-ignorant that it would only make his head spin around if I tried to explain it to him. The poor thing. Forced to use a sub-par browser simply because he wouldn’t grasp the concept of tabbed browsing.
I had to explain scrolling down the page to him. Seriously. If what he wanted wasn’t at the top of the page? He had no reason to look at it any longer. It was as if the rest of the page didn’t even exist. Helping him discover the internets has truly been a surreal experience.
In other news, I’M GETTING A MACBOOK! EEEEEEEEEE!!! With Parallels, so I can run Windows crap too! EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I am so excited I am nearly wetting myself every time I think about it. And then I bask in the glow of knowing it’s nearly mine.
This post is horribly disjointed. It’s not amusing nor is it interesting, and yet I keep writing it. I’m sorry for you if you’re unlucky enough to still be reading.
Oh! I finally entered the world of MMORPGs! I’ve been (attempting to not suck while I am) playing Neverwinter Nights, which is flipping amazing and I had no idea how fun it is to run around and open doors and climb up things and ask people questions and, most importantly, opening random boxes and chests and finding A GOLD PIECE! WOO!
Seriously. I am ridiculously lame at it still, but I intend to get better. Why didn’t anyone tell me before how fun this is?!
And with that, farewell. Hopefully next time I have something slightly more worthwhile to say.

Yeah, the new IE has tabs… but I don’t think he realizes it. Best just to leave it alone, lol. This is a guy who has to stop and ask you what every word means that you’re using…
“What’s a URL?!”
“What do you mean, put the cursor on it?!”
“What button?!?”

Well, wasn’t that a whirlwind post? My parents (and Terry stepmom) are only slightly better when it comes to the internet. ONLY SLIGHTLY.
I am so envious of you….macbook.
I put up a new banner….I’m not thrilled. I think I want to completely revamp the whole dang thing…..want to help?

Hey there. Congrats on your pending MacBook purchase. Make sure to get the extended warranty!! Macs are great, but I’ve heard horror stories about cracking cases, etc due to intel chips overheating. Do your homework! In other laptop news, I ran across some older laptops in our tech surplus at work. One was a Dell 350MHz with 96MB RAM (LOL). I installed Damn Small Linux on it and she runs like a top :)

Whoops, forgot to finish my thoughts: Which one are you getting? Get 1GB RAM, if at all possible. Its much easier to buy the thing with as much RAM as possible, even if you scrimp on the hard drive. External storeage is much easier to acquire than adding RAM later in the game. Sorry for my unsolicited computer purchasing advice :P

Hey Phil - thank you for the recommendations! :) Of course I don’t mind your unsolicited advice. You are, after all, a guy who uses and administrates the use of Macs, so I trust you. :D
Bondwolf, yup. Yup I have.
Grampal, aww - it was good seeing you too! I’m so glad Mom is doing better. The party was SWEET. Tim will have to post about it.
